Setting Up Outlook Express

Getting your mail setup is not as hard as you might think... just a few simple steps and you are rockin and rollin. This is conceptually the same in Office Outlook as well.

[Note: This tutorial is primarily for my clients. Your hosting service may differ.]

outlook icon
fig. 1.

1. Obviously the first thing you will need to do (other than be connected to the internet) is to open up "Outlook Express". Its icon looks like figure 1. You can usually find it on your desktop or in your start menu.

2. Now that you have "Outlook Express" open you will need to navigate to the "Tools" dropdown menu. From there scroll down to and click on the accounts option.

3. You are now in the area where you manage your internet mail and news accounts. You will need to click the "Add" button down until you see a small flyout menu. On this menu there are 3 choices you want to pick the "mail" choice since you are trying to setup a mail account.

4. Here you will need to fill in your email address (not mine^) then click next

5. You will always choose "POP3" from the dropdown box at the top and your mail servers will always be your domain name prefixed with the word "mail" (ie mail.yourdomain.com) That will be the same for both incoming and outgoing. Then click next.

6. Here you should enter your email address and the password that has been provided to you from the hosting service. If you have lost your password please contact brad stone at bstone@bradleystone.com. Click next and finish and you are done. If you have setup multiple emails in your outlook express which is not uncommon you would access the list of addresses you may send from by clicking on the 'from' field as shown below.
